'We all live in a yellow submarine.' So sang Ringo, all those years ago. George Martin, the Beatles' producer, made an effort to simulate the sound of the deep. He didn't, though, really take the band twenty thousand leagues beneath the sea and get them to play in diving suits. Nobody complained. Millions just suspended their disbelief and sang along. We are all wise enough to understand that the things people say and sing don't have to match the things they actually do. But there is a bit of a wide gap emerging this weekend.
